2022 Ford Maverick XL vs XLT
The 2022 Ford Maverick is a small pickup truck that offers incredible capability, roomy interior space, and an environmentally friendly powertrain. Ford's first hybrid truck offers practicality and versatility to drivers who want the ability to haul and tow smaller loads without being overwhelmed by a full-size pickup truck.
Models and Pricing
The 2022 Ford Maverick is offered across Canada in three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat. Starting at $25,900, the entry-level XL model includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, touchscreen infotainment system, FordPass Connect, LED headlamps, rear under-seat storage bins, and more.
The mid-level XLT starts at $28,500 and provides drivers with more design and convenience, such as added cubby storage in the truck bed, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, an upgraded interior, power locking tailgate, and wiper-activated headlamps.
The top-level Lariat trim starts at $34,450.
Both the XL and XLT models come standard with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that is assisted by an electric motor for a combined 191 horsepower. Front-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission comes standard to deliver 1,814kg of towing capability and an estimated 5.9 L/100km city fuel economy.
Both models also offer a non-hybrid powertrain option, which is a 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine that pairs with Intelligent all-wheel drive and delivers 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.
There are some key design changes to the Maverick's exterior between the XL and XLT models. The lower-priced XL features 17-inch steel wheels and black mesh grille with black surround. The higher-priced XLT features 17-inch painted aluminum wheels and grey grille bar, as well as additional optional features such as front tow hooks, body-coloured side mirrors, splash guards, and more.
In the truck's bed, the XLT adds in cubby storage on the passenger side to expand the number of secure compartments available to drivers.
Technology and Security
While the infotainment system remains the same on both trim levels, there is a key technology feature missing on the XL model--cruise control. Cruise control comes standard on the XLT.
In terms of security, the XL model features an anti-theft engine immobilizer and manual tailgate lock, while the XLT upgrades to a power tailgate lock and includes a perimeter anti-theft alarm and SecuriCode keyless-entry keypad, so you can simply enter a code on the driver's side door for access to the vehicle.
Ford Maverick XL vs XLT Trim
The $2,600 price difference between the 2022 Ford Maverick XL and XLT trim levels represents many features that are present on the XLT that are not on the XL. It is up to drivers to decide if these features are necessary or if the truck is perfectly acceptable in its natural, entry-level state.
