Ford Mustang | Price, Features and Performance

The Ford Mustang has sold more than ten million vehicles over the model's long and prestigious history. However, the line is very far from running out of steam, and the 2019 Mustang offers plenty of performance and personality across the whole range. Here's what you need to know.

Trim Levels and Body Shape

The 2019 Ford Mustang is available in two main trims aimed at regular street driving, the EcoBoost and the GT. Each trim features a different powertrain configuration, and each one is also available in a Premium version which ups the level of interior luxury.

Ford Mustang Iconic Shape and Exterior Design

As standard, all Mustangs come in the two-door fastback coupe format, although nearly all configurations are also available in soft-top convertible versions.

Engine and Performance

The base-level EcoBoost is a long way above entry-level when it comes to performance. It's equipped with a 2.3L I-4 turbocharged engine that pushes out 310 horsepower at 5,500rpm, with 350lb-ft of torque at 3,300rpm.

Considering the high power rating for a street coupe, the fuel economy is surprisingly good, with 7.9L / 100km on the highway and 11.2L / in the city.

2020 Ford Mustang Power & Performance

However, the GT version really ups the performance ante. It offers a 5.0L V8 which faithfully reproduces the traditional Mustang roar, making this trim level immense fun to drive. In performance terms, the GT provides 460 horsepower at 7,00rpm, with 429lb-ft of torque at 4,600rpm.

As you'd expect from an engine of this size, fuel economy isn't really a consideration. That said, the figures of 9.9L / 100km on the highway and 16.1L / 100km in the city aren't as painful as they could be.

Drivetrain Configuration

The standard Mustang transmission is a six-speed manual, in keeping with its history as a hands-on car made for driving. However, a ten-speed automatic option is also available, which actually offers a slight boost in straight-line speed.

Without exception, the 2019 Ford Mustangs are rear-wheel drive only, with no FWD or AWD option on any trim.

Interior Features

Mustangs are designed to be a pleasure to drive, and the interior features enhance the thrill provided by the powertrain performance. Standard Mustang interior features include:

  • Leather adjustable steering wheel.
  • Wheel-mounted audio controls.
  • Bluetooth connection.
  • Power windows, door locks and mirrors.
  • Cruise control.
  • Air conditioning.

Ford Mustang Interior Tech and Gadgets

Rising up the trim levels sees new additions including auto climate control, heated and power adjustable seats, navigation system and more.

Price

The Mustang offers a highly affordable route into performance car ownership, especially at the lower EcoBoost trim level. However, to ease your path we can also offer a range of competitive packages to help you finance a Mustang of your own.

The EcoBoost starts at $30,699 for the fastback model and $35,699 for the convertible version, while the GT fastback starts at $40,289. To enjoy a GT in convertible format, you'll need to plump for the higher GT Premium trim, and this weighs in at $53,105.
